Exploring American Socioeconomic Mortality Gaps
In my first post, I explore recent trends in US life expectancy. Specifically, I will focus on comparing US life expectancy between the top socioeconomic deciles and the bottom socioeconomic deciles for different causes of death. Unsurprisingly, their is a wide mortality gap between top deciles and bottom deciles which has expanded since 1982.
This paper would not have been possible without the following research;
The 2022 Society of Actuaries paper by Magali Barbieri analyzes cause of death by socioeconomic status
National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recent 2021 paper provides analysis on working age mortality trends since the 1990s.
